5 Signs Your Nightwear Fabric Is Ruining Your Sleep

Most people blame a restless night on the weather or a late dinner, but the fabric touching your skin for eight hours plays a bigger role than most of us realise.

1. You wake up damp

Synthetic blends that do not breathe trap body heat and moisture against the skin. If you regularly wake up sweaty even with a fan running, the fabric is not letting moisture escape.

2. You wake up with marks or itching

Rough seams, synthetic elastics or low-quality dyes are common causes of overnight itching, especially around the neckline and underarms.

3. The fabric pills within a few washes

Pilling is a sign of a loosely spun, lower-grade yarn. Good quality cotton and modal resist pilling far longer.

4. It clings and twists around you

Slippery synthetics tend to ride up and twist during the night, disturbing sleep with constant readjusting. A fabric with a little natural grip, like brushed cotton, stays put.

5. It smells even after washing

Synthetic fibres hold onto sweat odour more stubbornly than natural fibres. If a fresh wash is not enough, it is worth switching fabric altogether.

If two or more of these sound familiar, it may be time to switch to a breathable, natural-fibre nighty rather than a new mattress.
