How to Care for Your Maxi Nighty So It Lasts Longer

A well-made maxi nighty should easily outlast dozens of washes. Most of the damage we see is caused by a handful of avoidable habits.

Wash cold, wash separately

Hot water accelerates colour fade and can shrink natural fibres. Wash nightwear in cold or lukewarm water, and separate darks from lights and prints for the first few washes especially.

Skip the harsh spin

A high-speed spin cycle stresses seams and elastics. A gentle or medium spin, followed by air drying, keeps the shape intact for longer.

Dry in shade, not direct sun

Direct, harsh sunlight fades prints and dyes faster than almost anything else. Dry your nightwear inside-out in a shaded, airy spot instead.

Iron on the reverse, low heat

If ironing, turn the garment inside out and use a low setting, especially over prints and any embroidery or lace trim.

Store it loosely

Folding nightwear too tightly in a packed drawer creates permanent crease lines over time. A loosely folded stack or a soft hanger works best.

Follow these five habits and a good cotton or modal nighty will comfortably see you through two to three years of regular wear.
